We’re back online again!

March 3, 2011

Sorry we’ve been away for a few months.   Thank you for all your lovely comments and for keeping this blog alive.

Topics I’m going to cover over the coming weeks include:

  • Hair removal as a means of survival (history lesson!)
  • Botox for your bits (hmm – not sure about that one…)
  • Stem cell creams
  • Bargain hair removal – who pays?

Plenty to write about, and for you to add your comments.  I’ll do my best to reply and look forward to getting to know you over the coming weeks and months.

Thanks

Will

Body’s largest organ, the skin, gets its own exhibition

June 28, 2010

The skin is the body’s largest organ, but a new exhibition in London reveals how it is often the most overlooked organ, which people seem to take for granted.

The exhibition at the Wellcome Collection, London has put the human skin under the spotlight highlighting what a crucial part of the body it is.

The human skin prevents infections, retains fluid and other parts of the anatomy, it keeps us cool by allowing us to perspire, and generally act as a barrier to protect us.

So isn’t it time we celebrated what a fantastic organ it really is and gave it some TLC?

The exhibition aims to increase visitors’ understanding of the skin and covers various topics, such as society’s obsession with eternal youth, make up, tattoos, right through to revealing why the skin is so difficult to repair and heal following traumas such as burns.

Facial skin is particularly important, as it will forever be the part of the body that people see first. Looking after and maintaining your skin’s condition is vital to achieving optimum skin health, and it just so happens that good skincare equals youthful looks.

Changing your lifestyle can be the first steps to achieving good skin health – stopping smoking, cutting down on alcohol, eating healthily and exercising are all ways in which you can maintain your skin. Skin peels, using quality moisturisers and non-surgical cosmetic treatments can also re-inject some life into the skin and re-train it to produce the collagen and elasticity that is lost with age.

Perfect skin: Jessica Simpson goes make-up free for Marie Claire

April 13, 2010

Jessica Simpson has dared to do what no other woman on earth would dream of doing, for millions of Marie Claire readers to see: she’s posed make-up free on the front cover.

As the media force-feeds us images of ‘perfect’ women on a daily basis, how refreshing that a woman as famous as Jessica Simpson has had the guts to pose makeup-less for the front cover of one of the most popular lifestyle magazines in the US.

No make-up, no retouching, no regrets!’, was the strapline of the cover story, which was printed on the back of her one-off TV show that follows her on a journey through society’s obsession with image. Jessica’s is also a face that is commonly associated with a US acne treatment, and has spoken openly about her own battle with the skin condition. Now she’s showing off her clear skin for millions to see!

We always tell our clients that there is no such thing as ‘perfection’, but it’s about reaching a level of personal perfection and being comfortable in your own skin. Once you have achieved that, the sky is your limit.

With great skin comes great confidence and we bet that many of our clients would happily pose for Marie Claire’s front cover minus airbrushing. SkinGenesis skin treatments are designed to rejuvenate, rebalance and tone the skin and provide you with a look and complexion that would look great on the cover of a fashion magazine.

We acknowledge the fact that everyone has little niggles about their appearance and things that they would love to change about themselves, but we believe in accepting our own uniqueness and learning how to control any skin problems, which then allows you to accept them. Jessica admits that she would love to be taller, but accepts a little bump on her nose, which she says is an imperfection to everyone else, yet it’s her perfection to herself.

Top model Naomi’s acne treatment mission

February 12, 2010

Friday 12th February 2010

Ready for the catwalk

Model Naomi Heap is preparing for what could be her big break in the fashion industry, Top Model UK

With her long dark hair, distinct features and a dream to hit the catwalks, there was just one thing that stood in her way – acne – and the need for an effective acne treatment.

After sailing through her audition on the premise that she ‘sorted out her skin’, Naomi made it her mission to sort out her stubborn spots and blemishes once and for all, before the final of this prestigious national competition.

Naomi said: “As you can imagine, in such a competitive industry, it’s vital that you have great skin. After searching on the internet for an affordable skin specialist, I approached SkinGenesis as they offered exactly what I was looking for – effective adult acne treatments. The medication I was on helped, but it didn’t achieve half as much as I wanted it to, and progress was slow, so I booked in for a consultation with Deborah, the clinic manager in Chester.

“She put together a bespoke skin treatment package that would treat both my remaining active acne, as well as the existing scars caused from previous blemishes. We started off with an Expert Skin Analysis, which determined my skin type, moisture content, sun damage and pH, which have helped me choose the right products for my skin. I have since undergone several courses of Microdermabrasion to get rid of all the dead skin cells and avoid further breakouts, as well as one IPL treatment.

“I have also received a gentle vitamin C skin peel, which has benefitted my skin dramatically. I was a bit of a tan-fan in my younger years and used the sunbeds quite a lot!

“All in all I am very happy with the progress we’ve made. By the time the competition comes around, I’m very confident that my skin will be as perfect as it possibly could be.”

Amanda Holden is all for non-surgical cosmetic treatments

January 19, 2010

Tuesday 19th January 2010

Amanda Holden has acted as the latest endorsement for non-surgical cosmetic treatments following a brief interview with the Guardian.

Holden said she would never have cosemtic surgery due to having a skin complaint that makes her over-produce scar tissue – however with so many brilliant non-surgical, natural treatments available, without the risk of scarring, why would you want to go through the pain of going under the knife?

She is known to have had Botox in the past and she thoroughly supports our ethos of making people feel good about themselves.

So whether it’s acne treatment, thread vein removal or skin rejuvenation, you can now get rid of all your blemishes without worrying about unwanted side effects, scarring or having time off work.

Reputable companies like SkinGenesis will also provide a treatment guarantee, which means that if you don’t see results within the advised programme time-frame, you’ll be given extra treatments until you do!

Clean & Clear ad banned for hiding shiny acne skin

January 6, 2010

Wednesday 6th January 2010

The ASA (Advertising Standards Agency) has banned an advert from Clean & Clear after it used make-up in its adverts that claimed to clear acne.

It said the before and after shots should have been taken in the same conditions to ensure a fair representation to consumers. The advertising agency responsible for the advert then admitted to using a ‘light powder foundation to hide shininess around the T-zone’.

We’re getting a bit tired of reading about dishonest adverts that mislead people into buying products that won’t necessarily work for them. Here at SkinGenesis we provide all our clients with honest, professional advice on skin treatments and never promise ‘perfect skin’, because in the real world, nobody’s skin is perfect.

Instead we aim to provide a programme of treatments that is tailored to your skin type and skin complaint to make sure you get the best possible result. Whether it’s acne treatment, wrinkles, thread vein removal or cellulite reduction, we can treat all kinds of skin problems.

All we would say is don’t trust adverts, don’t expect too much from high street products and try not to waste too much money on trying different solutions. Why not take advantage of our free expert skin analysis so that you can make an informed decision on the products you use?
