Skin cancer attacks 10,000+ per year

May 29, 2009

Friday 29th May 2009

Cancer Research UK has revealed that more than 10,000 people are diagnosed with the deadliest form of skin cancer every year in a quest to achieve that perfect tan.

And even if you don’t get skin cancer, you can end up with premature ageing and uneven pigmentation, which will require the need for anti-ageing treatments, pigmentation treatments and freckle reduction.

Year upon year, many young people, and older people, fail to see the dangers of spending too long in the sun’s deadly UV rays. Package holidays and hot summer weekends here in the UK all facilitate the development of skin cancer because it encourages ‘binge tanning’.

We all like to make the most of the sunnier days and warmer climes, however just being a little bit sensible can save you from developing cancer, ultimately saving your life.

  • Stay out of the sun between 11am and 3pm – this is when the sun is strongest
  • Wear at least a factor 15, preferably 20+
  • Cover up any moles
  • Protect the face to avoid ageing and your head with a sun hat – there’s nothing worse than a burnt scalp!

Teenage botox addicts – anti ageing treatments

May 28, 2009

Thursday 28th May 2009

We were shocked to read on Google this morning that a mother in the US had bought her teenage daughter Botox injections for her 18th birthday.

The girl had developed a complex with her ‘wrinkles’ on her forehead (something i’m fairly sure to say we all have). Whilst most teenage girls ask for an expensive pair of shoes or a new designer handbag for their 18th, this was obviously upsetting the girl so much that her mum, also a cosmetic surgery fanatic, splashed out on a course of Botox treatments for her instead.

Botox can have great effects for people who are worried about their fine lines and wrinkles and would like an anti-ageing treatment that’s guaranteed to work, however most teenagers have other things on their mind like going to university, seeking acne treatment and going out with their friends. I feel sorry for the girl if this really was a psychological problem, however becoming a botox addict at 18 to me seems extremely worrying.

What are your thoughts on this?

Forget chocolate – acne treatment that actually works!

May 22, 2009

Friday 22nd May 2009

In the news this week, there has been a buzz about Frutels chocolate acne treatment that helps fight pimples from within.

Yes you read it right – chocolate that actually helps clear your skin. Apparently it works, however I am not so sure. I would prefer to try an acne treatment that was actually guaranteed to work, instead of taking chances on something that might in fact make me obese!

Intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) and microdermabrasion (Mda) are the best acne treatments and improve the skin’s texture immediately. With several treatments, you can be well on your way to having clear, spot-free skin.

Anti-bacterial skin-peels are great for acne too as they cleanse the skin and remove the upper layer of the skin, stimulating it to renew itself. Unless you go for a harsh chemical peel, there will be no downtime, meaning that you won’t be left with raw skin, as is the common misconception.

Weighing up the pros and cons, i would rather have a fifteen minute treatment from which i could see an immediate improvement, than develop an addiction to chocolate that would just make me gain weight. Although i’m not that fond of chocolate anyway, which might be why i’m not too keen to try it.

SkinGenesis in Chester has managed to get its hands on the first SmoothShapes cellulite reduction machine here in the UK and is encouraging everyone to come into the clinic to see whether it lives up to its high standards.

People in the USA have been raving about it, so we thought it was only fair to make it available to everyone over here too.

SmoothShapes cellulite reduction is a scientific-based treatment that uses Photomology technology to do exactly what it says on the tin and reveal a ‘smoother shape’.

The treatment uses dynamic laser and light energy to liquefy fat cells and improve skin texture. Collagen is regenerated, circulation is improved and metabolic processes are restored. The contoured rollers and vacuum massage assist in moving the liquefied fat out through the lymphatic system and help smooth out the skin.

SmoothShapes is FDA-approved so is 100% safe to use on the body and it is currently only available at SkinGenesis in the UK.

To be part of the trial period, contact Deborah at our Chester clinic on 01244 303464 or visit our website:

Skin cancer uncovered in sun-exposed cricketers – UV skin analysis

May 15, 2009

Friday 15th May 2009

Cricketers across the country will be given a skin analysis to help uncover potential melanomas in the skin from increased sun exposure.

As we come to the end of Sun Awareness Week, we hope that people who spend a lot of time in the sun, whether that is for leisure or work, are more aware of the serious threats it can pose to our skin and how to prevent skin cancer form developing.

Cricketers are the most exposed to UV rays as they spend a lot of time in Australia and New Zealand. Of course they take precautions and try to protect their skin, but when you spend more than 8 hours in the sun a day, it’s difficult to dodge the danger!

Top tips for preventing skin cancer:

  1. Avoid the sun between 11am and 3pm
  2. Wear at least factor 20 sunscreen
  3. Wear a hat to protect the skin on the head and a visor, peak or sun hat will also help shade the face
  4. Have a UV image skin analysis to identify any potential threats, so you can rectify any damage early and then avoid further damage in the future

If you’re worried about skin cancer or have spotted any suspicious looking blemishes or patches on the skin, leave us a comment here and we will give you a free consultation and skin analysis in either Leeds, Manchester or Chester.

Hot pants cellulite treatment ‘melts away’ fat

May 7, 2009

Thursday 7th May 2009

‘Spanky pants’ are all the rage for when you want to fake that hourglass figure, but what if we told you that the latest cellulite treatment consists of a pair of similar knickers that actually reduce orange peel skin?

That’s what SCALA claim anyway, the manufacturers of the revolutionary pants. They start from £25 and contain special micro-crystals that stimulate the circulation and cell metabolism around the stomach, thighs and hips, ‘melting’ the fat cells that cause the cellulite into a liquid to reveal a smoother appearance.

But does it last?

The straight answer. No. In fact a doctor has actually said that better results would be achieved with a healthier diet and regular exercise. There are many ‘miracle products’ claiming to do this sort of thing, but we have yet to find one that works. It wasn’t long ago that Miss Sixty launched some cellulite-busting jeans, only to be told not to make this claim because in fact it didn’t do what it said on the tin!

As with any other cellulite treatment, the pants might be worth a whirl, however if you want real, long lasting results, it might be better to invest your money into something like mesotherapy cellulite treatment. Initially it will be a little more expensive, but you have to weigh this up with the results. Thinking about how much you spend on cellulite lotions, potions and pants in a year, this will probably add up to the cost of mesotherapy anyway!

Excessive body hair caused by ovaries – permanent hair removal

May 6, 2009

Wednesday 6th May 2009

Excessive body hair in females could be due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), the NHS has revealed recently.

Yes, that’s right, if you have been suffering from excessive hairyness it could be due to an underlying medical condition. If you think this could be the reason for your excess body hair, it may be time to visit your GP, who will be able to do tests on whether it is caused by this syndrome. It might not be, but it’s better to get it checked out so you can put your mind at rest, get treatment and then do something about getting rid of that hair for good!

PCOS Hair Reduction treatments use Intense Pulsed Light therapy, and consistently produces great results. Watch Kuldeep’s hair removal experience on YouTube.

Waxing is painful, shaving must be carried out every day and both can be very costly and/or time-consuming. With permanent hair removal, you may need a number of treatments depending on the extent of your hair, however the regrowth will be finer and more sparse, leaving you free to get on with other important things in your life and giving you more time in the mornings.
