Let’s tackle child obesity

Obesity is a growing problem across the whole of the UK and various health authorities constantly encourage us to eat healthily and do more exercise. One way to tackle obesity is to nip it in the bud and teach children how to manage what they eat and how to live a healthy lifestyle.

This is what’s happening in Wales currently. Around 2000 seven to fifteen year olds and their parents will receive help and guidance via 10-week courses on diet and exercise. They won’t focus solely on weightloss, but they will  help develop weight management skills so that they can maintain their new lifestyles long after they finish the course.

With children as young as two being obese, we think this programme is a great idea. Families can enrol themselves or be referred by their GP. We think this programme should be rolled out across the UK as it’s not just Wales who are suffering from the problem. With people looking to be a bit more shop-savvy too, penny-pinching and the like, it’s so easy to throw in a few ready meals that are on special offer that are just packed with all the wrong ingredients. One thing these courses do is teach people how to shop healthily even in these hard times. Read about good and bad skin foods here.

Read more and watch more here, where you will see a snippet of what can be expected at these obesity courses.
